Today Virginia Republicans nominated former Governor Jim Gilmore to take on Mark Warner in the race to fill John Warner’s Senate seat. Gilmore defeated Delegate Bob Marshall 5222-5156, which amounts to 50.2 to 49.7 percent. Let the coronation begin.
Jim Gilmore: Truly Fallacious May 1, 2008

Without getting into a discussion of the car tax and Jim Gilmore’s term as governor lets, just examine the logic of his statement about Warner and taxes. Gilmore essentially says that Warner successfully runs for office by saying he is going to do one thing, but then doing another once he is finally elected. This argument is a hypothetical syllogism represented as if p->q and consequently if ~q -> ~P. So in the second part Gilmore argues if Warner says he’s going to raise taxes, then he is probably going to raise taxes a lot. I guess this would be represented as p->~q or p-> even more p as pertaining to his first argument. Either way I say Jim Gilmore, you sir are an arguer of fallacious things and not fit to be in the United States Senate!
Also, it’s probably arguements like this that have caused Gilmore to be running just about 2000 percent behind Warner in cash on hand.
Chris Saxman’s Madness April 2, 2008

I joined a free March Madness pool sponsored by NLS and as an indication of their love for Ben Tribbett several elected
officials from Virginia joined the pool. Some of the notables are Chap Peterson, Brian and Jim Moran, and Governor Kaine. Here is a post with the elected officials rankings and scores going into the elite 8. The real surprise though has been Delegate Chris Saxman’s (R-Staunton, Augusta County, Highland County) incredible score of 114 through the first four rounds. This score puts him 5th on Yahoo’s overall rankings, ahead of about 2.5 million other brackets. Not only that, if UNC beats UCLA in the final, Sax Bracket (that’s the name) is the overall winner and recipient of the $10,000 grand prize.
Saxman probably wishes he had this kind of success in gaining support for his primary run for Senate but $10,000 ain’t too shabby either. Check out what he said on the NLS message board.

After intense debate we have decided to endorse Sam Rasoul over Drew Richardson for the Democratic nomination to serve Virginia’s Sixth Congressional District in Congress. Sure Sam has sort of a strange website, but we think he is the kind of young and inspiring candidate to help the Democrats become more competitive in the valley. Go Sam ‘08!
This is seriously the best photo I could find of the man.

Check this out. Apparently it’s illegal in Virginia to mix spirits and beer. Banning mixed drinks but not public smoking sure seems sensible.
Get that on record! Saxman was rooting AGAINST hometown hero Dell Curry’s son to pull a huge upset in the biggest game of his life! This guy is going down in ‘09. Also, I think he is definitely wrong about Memphis beating UCLA.
BTW if UCLA beats Kansas in the final I win the NLS pool. Then this blog will no doubt be “big time”.
UPDATE: Make sure to read the comment from Delegate Saxman himself!
